Our research is deeply interdisciplinary, drawing on theories and methods from psychology, sociology, economics, geography, history, and philosophy. We study a wide range of entrepreneurial phenomena, with much of our work designed to inform and support public policy.
Our education is rooted in experiential learning and real-world relevance. We foster strong connections with local and international entrepreneurial ecosystems and encourage our students to take an experimental, hands-on approach to learning and entrepreneurship.
Sustainable Entrepreneurship. Or is it?
This master's programme takes a critical yet holistic approach to the intersection of sustainability and entrepreneurship. It is designed to equip students with the mindset and skills needed to question, challenge, and ultimately transform existing societal and business paradigms.
We believe that the future is co-created. That’s why the programme brings together students from diverse academic backgrounds and uses interdisciplinary teaching methods that combine academic rigour with real-world relevance.
Students will explore the systemic nature of today’s social, environmental, and economic sustainability challenges. They will analyse how entrepreneurship can both contribute to and help solve these complex issues.
Upon graduation, students are prepared to engage professionally in the Finnish and global entrepreneurial ecosystems. They do so as changemakers, innovators, and critical thinkers.

Our research meets the highest academic standards and is published in leading journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, and Academy of Management Journal. We explore entrepreneurship as a dynamic, interdisciplinary field with both theoretical depth and practical relevance.

We provide entrepreneurship education at all levels, from bachelor’s and master’s to doctoral studies. Our recently launched MSc in Sustainable Entrepreneurship offers students a critical and hands-on approach to entrepreneurship through the lens of sustainability.

Our team leads and contributes to a range of nationally and internationally funded research and education projects. We collaborate with partner institutions across Europe, Asia, and Africa to promote knowledge exchange and innovation in entrepreneurship education and practice.

Our work has strong policy relevance, and we actively engage with decision-makers in Finland and beyond. We have advised ministries in Finland and Germany and collaborated with international organisations such as the EU and the OECD through consultancy and research-based policy input.

Aalto Founder School offers all Aalto students the chance to explore entrepreneurship through a wide range of courses that can also be combined into a minor. In addition, monthly Founder Talks bring inspiring entrepreneurs from Finland and abroad to campus and online to share their stories.
For those ready to take the next step, the Founder Sprint provides tailored coaching, personal mentoring, and connections with leading entrepreneurs and investors. The programme helps ambitious students turn their ideas into reality and build the skills needed to succeed as future founders.
