MFSEE Project: Strengthening Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education with RMIT Vietnam

The Mobility for Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education (MFSEE) project links Aalto University’s Master’s Programme in Sustainable Entrepreneurship with RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Supported by 64,532 EUR from the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) programme, this two-year (August 2025 – July 2027) collaboration advances experiential and problem-based learning in sustainable entrepreneurship, exploring how businesses can address environmental and social challenges while remaining profitable.

Through the project, Aalto students will have the opportunity to conduct thesis work, take part in shorter ecosystem mobility, and engage directly with Southeast Asian business incubators. These experiences include fieldwork with local enterprises on sustainability-focused challenges, participation in RMIT’s Sustainability & Creativity course, and the application of knowledge gained in Finland to real-world contexts in Vietnam’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The MFSEE project also promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between Aalto’s School of Business and School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Faculty exchange will involve both junior staff, including PhD researchers, and senior colleagues, who will collect data, co-develop teaching practices, and conduct joint research with RMIT faculty.

A central component is the cross-institutional Educator Mentorship Initiative, which aims to create a bilateral education hub, strengthen teaching competencies, and share innovative pedagogical approaches such as human-centred design, studio-based teaching, and hands-on learning. In later stages of the project, junior faculty may also include PhD candidates interested in co-authoring publications with RMIT colleagues or fellow doctoral researchers.

Mobility flows in both directions. In the first phase, Aalto students and faculty will travel to Vietnam, and in 2026 RMIT students and faculty will come to Finland to participate in Aalto’s PORT_ Hackathon and explore the Finnish sustainability and innovation landscape. The project outcomes include new international learning opportunities, expanded research networks, and best practices for teaching sustainability, captured in a roadmap and a digital report published on Aalto’s pedagogical website for wider use.

“I used to live and run a business in Vietnam, and during my PhD in Finland I felt a strong pull to reconnect with its entrepreneurial ecosystem. A conversation with RMIT colleagues, inspiration from other TFK-funded projects at Aalto, and the support of my colleagues Tamara, Apurva, and Matleena turned this idea into a concrete partnership that we are now excited to bring to life,” says Anastasia Koptsyukh, Doctoral Researcher in Entrepreneurship at Aalto University School of Business and project lead.

The MFSEE project is led and coordinated by Anastasia Koptsyukh and Tamara Galkina, in partnership with Matleena Muhonen from Aalto University, as well as Justin Battin and colleagues at RMIT Vietnam.
